Welcome, fall semester reporters!

Hello, everyone. I hope you’re getting your feet wet on your new beat, whatever it is. I told my group of neighborhood reporters yesterday how important it is to just jump in and used my (terrified) downhill skier analogy. I’ve been skiing since I was 5 years old, and still when I get to the top of a tough hill I have this tendency to want to stop and gaze down at it. Then I realized that the less I thought about how steep it looked, the easier and better I skied the hill. So now, I just go.

So… just GO. Start reading those beat memos, archives, columbiamissourian.com and everything else you can get your hands on to begin understanding whatever piece or aspect of Columbia you’ve been assigned. The sooner you get that first story behind you, the easier the next one will be.

ABOUT THE BOOK: The bookstore informs me that the book has not arrived. It will be there by the middle of next week at the latest. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Meanwhile, get your E-portfolios started. Today is Day #1.
