A couple weeks ago, I asked you to let me know if you wanted me to devote a class to writing a killer cover letter.
The response was a strong yes.
So we will do that on Tuesday. I will also talk about how to choose the samples of work you send an employer and share some tips on resume writing. (I am doing this now because the internship “season” ends for many employers before the end of the year, and I don’t want you to miss opportunities.)
We’ll look at a recent job posting for interns at a major news organization, and then we’ll talk about how to pitch yourself as the right person for the job. If you would not mind me critiquing a cover letter you’ve written recently, email it to me by 5 p.m. Monday (November 15).
While I was researching the subject, I came across a great tip sheet from Virginia Tech’s career center. I find very little fault with the advice on this site. Have a look.
(If you already have an internship or job lined up for next summer, you might still want to come to offer your proven expertise.)
