Missed you at 11…

Yes — there’s a lot to keep track of when you’re in this class. You have GA shifts, beat meetings, lecture on Tuesdays and Thursdays and then, there’s that other important meeting…

Budget. 11 AM, in the newsroom of the Missourian. You heard about it at orientation, and your attendance at it is noted by the editors who will grade you (check the rubric).

But what really makes your attendance at budget important is your participation in our ongoing conversation about the journalism we’re doing. We talk about work that’s been published on the site and in the paper. We discuss choices that were made — how we could have done better. It’s also a great place to pick up a story, if you have nothing working.

Today we talked about two, terrific stories: Jonathan Cook’s piece about a homeless man, and this story plus video about the weather and sledding at Stephens Lake Park. We touched on an ethical issue in the first piece and just enjoyed the second piece.

We realize that some of you are in class at 11 a.m., but if you’re not — please join us. It’s a great time to get feedback and learn.
